Dear Joan,
RE EDM 1400 – NEW UK BANK HOLIDAY
I know that you can’t sign Early Day Motions as a Minister, but I hope that you can find other ways of indicating your support for the TUC’s campaign for a new bank holiday.
I did a little bit of research on how we (the UK) compares with other countries in Europe around public holidays and annual leave entitlement and it seems we are a long way from being the most generous.
I know that we had an increase in the entitlement to annual leave in October last year and that there will be another increase next year, which I’m sure will be very welcome.
Even so, I think that a public holiday of the sort being proposed by the Community Day campaign would be very welcome.
All the best,
Andrew

at least this is one occasion ruddock won’t be able to say she is in support of one thing to garner public support, but then when push comes to shuff and she’s told what to do by the dear leader, vote against it in parliament
