Mayor and Cabinet 14 May 2008

Not much of an agenda as you’ll see, and it’s probably one of those meetings that are scheduled just in case the Overview & Scrutiny Business Panel take issue with any of the items that went before the Mayor and Cabinet last time.
A rare event in my day, but possibly more frequent now.

To report back on any matters raised by the Overview & Scrutiny Business Panel following their consideration of the decisions made by the Mayor and Cabinet on 30 April 2008.

I’m told last week the Children and Young People’s Select Committee were angry to discover due to a decision made by the Mayor there was a consequence that he and officers were aware of but was not made public.
The problem expressed by Labour, Lib Dem, Green and Socialist councillors was they could not scrutinise the Mayor’s decision because they did not have the report which influenced his decision.
If what I understand is correct then it would seem the Mayor is regularly updated and provided with reports that may influence his decisions but that information may not be included in the report appearing on the cabinet’s agenda.
Looking again the meeting was canceled, which suggests the Overview and Scrutiny Business Panel didn’t find anything to worry them in the decisions made last time.
