ladywell in bloom?

One of my local councillors, Sue Luxton, points out that the hanging baskets are up and makes this suggestion:

The long-awaited hanging baskets were put up in Ladywell Rd on Friday – they look good, I hope we can have some on Brockley Rd and Loampit Vale next year too, but they don’t come cheap. I think it would be nice to do some kind of community planting days next year, like FUSS do in Staplehurst Road. Maybe we could really go for it and enter Lewisham in Bloom?

(I’m sure its an oversight that she doesn’t mention that the hanging baskets are a legacy from the outgoing Labour councillors for the ward – part of the local money thing I wrote about before.)

I worked with FUSS – I even did some of the planting and beautifying – and think Sue’s idea is a spledid one, but will take some organising.  The amount of work put in by Vanessa and her colleagues over in Staplehurst Road (not to mention the council and Glendale) was, and is, staggering.

However, the results are brilliant and the rewards aren’t all that bad either.
