On not seeing Art Brut

Bang Bang Rock 'n' RollI’d been looking forward to seeing Art Brut last night; we’d packed the kids off to friends, got our glad rags on, and made our way to Goldsmiths (via The Royal Albert – ex Paradise Bar) .

But when did bands start going on stage at one o’clock in the morning?

Too late for an old man like me.

But if anyone did stay up that late I’d be interested to know whether they were any good.

Blimey! I was going to go to that, glad I didn’t now.
Scott Wood was supposed to be going too…

I went to the gig, and agreed – it was very late. Luckily (or not, for my liver), 1.50 pints! Just killed 3 hours talking with pissed Goldsmiths students, who were all very cool. The band actually went on at around midnight, an hour before the listed time.

Anyway, it was a pretty great gig. Felt like ‘real’ rock and roll in a way that I haven’t experienced much in the past few years, and the crowd was very into it. Also, Argos claimed that they had just finished recording their new album that day, and they played around 4-6 new songs, which was pretty great.

In general just a typically superb performance. Check them out at the Astoria in June, it will surely start at a more reasonable time.

    Thanks for that.

Glad to hear the band were rock ‘n’ roll and that students can still do cool!

    Bring on the summer.
