So not only particapatory budgeting but also some flesh on the bones about transfering community assets. You’ll recall I wrote about Barry Quirk’s paper on this a little while ago.
The press release from DCLG says there will be “£400,000 of funding to transfer up to 40 buildings into community ownership”. Not all in Lewisham mind you, it’ll be shared with 20 other areas, which suggests we’re going to see 2 buildings being transfered here.
It’s good to see manifesto promises being kept, isn’t it?
Yes it is, and this is a good thing. But how far will £20K between 2 buildings? Do we know yet what the assets will be?
No, I don’t think they’ve been identified as yet. Clearly the business planning by the groups that want the buildings, and the council, to transfer the assets will be the critical issue.
