Cover Versions Again

In a follow up to this post, it seems I have recently found a glut of rather good cover versions:

Nouvelle Vague – Too Drunk To Fuck – one of Jello Biafra’s classic West Coast punk songs turned into bossa nova beat lounge music.  Should you want to you can download their version of Killing Moon, courtesy of LastFM

Went to a party / I danced all night / I drank 16 beers / And I started up a fight / But now I’m jaded / You’re out of luck / I’m rollin’ down the stairs / Too drunk to fuck /

Buddy Miles – Down By The River – the drummer in Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies does a Neil Young song rather well.

Be on my side / I’ll be on your side / Baby / There is no reason /For you to hide /It’s so hard for me /Staying here all alone /When you could be / Taking me for a ride.

Bobby Womack – California Dreaming – the Mamas and Papas song given a mellow soul going over.

Stopped into a church / I passed along the way / Well, I got down on my knees / Got down on my knees / And I pretend to pray

The Fall – Mr. Pharmacist –  the first Fall ‘hit’ was apparently originally done by a garage band called The Other Half.

Hey mr pharmacist / Words cannot express / Feeling I suggest / Oh mr pharmacist I can plead / Gimme some of that powder I need / Mr pharmacist
