I live in Lewisham, South East London, and spent 9 years as a Labour councillor in the borough between 1997 and 2006.

  1. ….is that Greenwich is where the rubbish is created, and Lewisham is where it’s cleaned up?

  2. robert says:

true, but I would rather have the council look at issues of making the place a better place to live and leave the shopping and business to the private sector, no?

of course, they could make their home page a little more attractive

  3. Nick S says:

I think I can speak with authority, as:
    a) I’ve been a taxpaying voting resident of both boroughs
    b) that’s me

The main difference between them is that when we say “Lewisham” we pronounce all the letters, and there is more or less one received pronunciation.

“Greenwich” (“Grinidge”, “Grinitch”, “Grenidge”, ad nauseam…) is quite another matter.

Oh, and there are far fewer of us Lewisham residents in the flood plain 🙂
