Come on You Finns

Today saw the start of cricket’s European Indoor Championship and it’s being hosted by the Finns. You might remember that they are closely linked to Lewisham through their coach Ross Walker, who runs TeachSport.

Looking at the website it looks like the Finns have started well winning against Luxembourg, Belguim and Greece.

So, I urge you to find your inner Finn and cheer them on to what I’m sure will be a well deserved victories over France, Denmark and Portugal tomorrow. Before progressing to ultimate victory on Sunday.

I was in Helsinki to cover a World Cup qualifier between Finland and England in 2000 (four days after Keegan resigned). It was October. It was Finalnd. I was wearing a jacket and t-shirt. I was fucking freezing for the four days I was there. It was beautiful, right enough! Oh, and England didn’t win, which made it extremely funny, too!
