As Lone Ranger points out the Loampit Vale website is back – having been taken down after Max noticed it a few days ago.
Of course anyone walking anywhere near the site couldn’t help but notice that there’s lots going on, but what the website makes clear is that what goes up on the site is still in the planning stages and that we have the chance to influence that – hence Max’s interest. On the planning page it says:
The Council developed a brief for the Loampit Vale site and invited Barratt Homes to work in partnership on the scheme. A planning application is currently being developed and consultation taking place with key public agencies such as The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and the GLA.
Consultation is being undertaken with local residents and groups. Public exhibitions will be held in May (15/16/17th) to give everyone the opportunity to comment on the scheme before the application is submitted.
There are artists impressions of what the leisure centre might look like, one of which I hope they don’t mind me posting below.
There’s also a drawing of what the pool might look like, which definitely has windows.
Now whether the final plans bear any relation to these drawings is going to be important to keep an eye on, but if it does I’ll be a happy user when and if it’s up in 2010.
I have also written about it few days ago here:
http://www.saveladywellpool.com/2008/04/28#a727
I would like to be a happy user too but if the leisure centre is not scaled upwards those will be rare events due to the overcrowding that’s being designed in.
So Andrew is this a new design? I thought all the plans and designs were in place , maybe i got it wrong(oops again) .
Planning was never my strongest suit as a councillor, but I think what the developers have is outline planning permission, which means they know they can build what they want to build but don’t have permission just to put up any old tat.
They now need to come back with a fully worked up scheme which will be put before councillors later in the summer.
Ok, this planning malarky is highly confusing. 😉
I don’t think the developer has outline planning permission and assume they will go for full planning permission later this year.
The pool in the basement drawing was produced by Allies & Morrison in draft February 2006 as part of a feasibilty study for the council. Basically it was an idea of what could be done with the site presumably to comply with the wishes of the council but be attractive to developers.
