I’m really having to force myself to read anything to do with that awful man. I just want to imagine he’s not in charge! After seeing him with Paxman before the election, I realised that he didn’t have a clue how to make the bus thing work. I’d love to imagine he’ll scrap bendy buses though – dangerous for cars and dangerous for pedestrians.

But much better for those of us with small children.

Of course, if the designers come up with a fantastic solution – eco friendly, pedestrian friendly, suited to London streets, and easy to get on and off more quickly that the double decker – I’ll be as happy as anyone. Whether that’ll be a “new Routemaster” remains to be seen, but according to Transit there’s not much hope:

A senior executive with a UK bus builder said a new Routemaster could not be certified, and would be too expensive.

Personally, I believe that a tram system should be installed – to save multiple buses going in slightly different directions people could hope on and off ‘lines’ like on the Tube. It’s also pretty clean and they seem to work well with pedestrians. Naturally, areas would have to be blocked off to cars but I’d be happy with that…
