  1. Not sure the list votes really translate well to a General Election. I certainly voted differently for the list than I would have done in a GE had it been held on the same day. Green seem to have done remarkably well and I would have thought far better than they would in a General Election (20% of the vote in Deptford for example.)

I agree Clare. My sense is that the list is where Labour is currently most vulnerable to people who might vote for us at a General Election not voting that way in the Mayor and Assembly.

  3. Sue Luxton says:

I agree that people vote differently at local and national level and depending on the voting system, however I think Greens increased our vote share in Lewisham Deptford at the expense of the Lib Dems more than Labour this time. Lab, Green and Tory % were all up on last time, with a big drop in the Lib Dem vote.

Clare – Greens got a respectable 11.1% in the 2005 general election in Lewisham Deptford (up from 6.5% in 2001), at a time when we only had 1 councillor elected in the constituency, compared to 6 now. Our vote was up in every ward in Lewisham Deptford this time and in 14 out of 18 wards across the borough. There is every reason to think we can improve on that percentage next time.

  4. Sue – thanks for that info. Very interesting. I would be very pleased to see the Greens mounting a real challenge to Labour and it seems that perhaps Deptford is somewhere that has a chance of happening, which would be great.
