Love your local?

Nick over at Brockley Central is bigging up the love your local competition, which is something he’s got a professional connection with.  They say:

Where would we be without our friendly locals? Whether you’re after a great evening with close friends or a quiet afternoon pint in the beer garden, your local is always there waiting.

I know that there’s at least one local blogger with a proper local, but while I like going for a pint or two I can’t say I do it enough to have “a local”.

Though if the discussion about the Ram in Catford is anything to go by maybe one or two of you do, and you’d like it to be in the running for:

  • A plaque inscribed with ‘London’s Best Loved Local 2008’
  • Profiled in the Evening Standard (although that may put you off as much as drive you on… )
  • Given a £5k bursary for venue improvements
  • Given £1.5k for a staff event

    Answer: In Hither Green.

  3. Admittedly I’ve never been in it, but what’s that one by the station like Max?

Always looks OK from the outside…

By chance I was there last night, it was the first time I went there in about a year and my second time at the Station pub altogether.
Reason for the visit was that I was meeting two other Hither Greenites and that’s the only pub left around there and that’s the only selling point that I can think of.
Even the wallpaper looks like it’s trying to leave the premises, it’s all in such a naff state that I’m pretty sure that if it wasn’t for the fact that there’s no competition around it would have closed long ago. A fully fledged drinking hole without any merit.

Oh. That’s pretty comprehensive then 😦

On reflection maybe I was a bit unkind, thinking back we could actually talk, no awful noise of sky sport and all that, and plenty of space. I was nevertheless not impressed with the place, it needs a make up.
