My Career:

2004 – Present: Manager at a National Drug Charity

Managing the strategic and policy development of projects and project workers. Responsibilities include business planning, project and budget management, supervision of staff and consultants, consultation with stakeholders, and media work.

2006: Technology Consultant

Relationship management for a technology company offering mobile solutions to the public sector. Responsibilities include creating new business, developing relationships with current partners and government departments, presentations, and website content management.

2001 – 2004 : Manager at a National Children’s Charity

Setting up and managing a national Forum bringing together organizations with a common interest in the wellbeing of rural children and young people. Responsibilities included business planning, budget management, supervision of consultants, representing the Forum on other bodies, consultation with stakeholders and media work.

1992 – 2001: Political Assistant to a Labour MP

Ran the office of a front bench Member of Parliament. Responsibilities included liaison with MPs and their staff, speech writing, devising Parliamentary Questions, research, casework, and diary management.

Public Service:

2006 – present: Governor, Haberdasher Aske’s Federation

1997 – 2006 : Councillor, London Borough of Lewisham
Cabinet Member for the Environment; 2003 – 2006
Political responsibility for the development of environmental services and the oversight of performance.

Chair of Social Care and Health Select Committee 2001 – 2003
Led and developed the scrutiny role. Responsibilities included developing the statutory role of scrutinising health services in the borough as well as oversight of social services policy, budget and performance.

Council Work Prior to 2001

  • 1998 – 2000 Vice Chair of the Social Services Committee.
  • 2000 – 2001 Member of the Social Care and Health Select Committee

2004 – 2006: Director, Groundwork South East London Trust

Corporate leadership to the local Groundwork Trust. Member of the Finance Sub Committee, ensuring the board had a strong understanding of budget issues.

2002 – 2006: Connexions Local Management Committee

An active board member providing direction to the Connexions Service at a borough level. The service is responsible for ensuring more young people are in employment, education or training.

2004 – 2006: Chair, Neighbourhood Management Panel

Chaired the service providers and resident panel implementing Neighbourhood Management on Heathside and Lethbridge estate.

2005 – 2006: Chair, Blackheath Safer Neighbourhood Panel

Chair of the local police consultative panel, working with the neighbourhood team and local residents to create common goals and priorities for the police in the ward. Responsibilities included regular meetings with the police team, oversight of performance figures, and liaison with community groups.
