A press release from Labour Friends of Eurovision*:
In a shock move, Liberal Democrat MPs have called for the BBC to consider withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest, labelling the competition a “joke”.
In an Early Day Motion, Lib Dem MPs Richard Younger-Ross and Colin Breed have called for the BBC to insist on voting changes or withdraw from the contest all together.
Whilst it is legitimate to have frustrations with Saturday’s result, clearly unilateral disengagement from the contest cannot be the answer.
Labour Friends of Eurovision calls for a progressive dialogue with the organisers of the contest, with a view to reforming from within, not refusing to engage.

My own bet is that there are Lib Dem activists writing Focus newsletters in high Eurovision turnout areas, saying that they entirely support Eurovision with prominent pictures of Tony Blair and George Bush shaking hands.

Oh dear. Some people are taking this even more seriously than I ever thought…
I must say that my wife and I watch it most years for a laugh, but this year was SOOOOOOOOOOOO boring!
The voting is a joke, but I have no idea how to fix it. Maybe we could just bring in Simon Cowell and two cronies (someone to throw a glass of water over him anyway)?
The UK entry was better than the points it got (how could the Russians get ANY points?) but politics – in the pejorative sense – ruined that.
Personallu I voted for Latvia (were they the ones in the Top Hats?) and Bulgaria (loved that voice)
I have to say it wasn’t as fun as the year when the Bosnians sang about their jumper, but what could match that!
Personally I thought the Georgian entry this year was the only one of any interest – kind of sub-Bjork – but I did laugh at/with the French.
Oh they’re all at it now! I’ve just heard (Radio 5 Live) that Tory MP David Amess has just called for the UK to withdraw from the competition.
