Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings

I’ve tended to think that the sort of soul music I like – rawer the better – was something of the past.

But Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are keen to prove me wrong.

Go listen, and if you like it then why not try the tee-shirt?

Via The Stepfather who said:

After a horn fanfare, “100 Days, 100 Nights” starts off with the group’s standard groove, as Sharon lays out the song’s premise. But after a little bit of this the band switches gears and over a more churchy, almost Five Royales kind of groove takes over and Sharon does her thing most effectively.

Most effective indeed.

Have to look out for it.

  2. Just downloaded some, on yuor suggestion – fantastic. I was so wrong to dismiss your music taste as shoe gazing – must overcome my prejudices.

Nothing wrong with a bit of shoe gazing in its place, but this stuff from Sharon Jones will outlast anything than Slowdive ever did.
